The Raw Edge Team Loves...Milan Fashion Week AW11

The Raw Edge Team holds Milan close to their heart, a place were I fell in love with all things fashion, whilst being trawled around the boutiques of its Piazza Duomo and its backstreets, as a young girl.  I noted a city where both young & the old oozed immaculate style and a passion for  it, inspiring me to take pride in the composition of my outfits... (despite a few grave fashion errors in the 90s,  trouser skirts, sportswear &  silver puffer coats to name a few)... Now alot wiser, having learnt from my faux pas & close attention to the catwalks of the world, I was uber excited to see what MFW had in store this year. MFW again superceeded our expectations.; Fur accents playing a key feature, 70s influences still going strong, colour itself,  Loved it all! Its great to see designers that have been around for donkeys still staying relevant yet staying true to what makes them unique...  Designers showing at MFW are indeed some of the heavyweights in the industry; heres why.... (glimpse of our fav shows from MFW AW 11 below)!

Last Night in London Town: Rock the Belles

Last night in London Town the Raw Edge Team took a press trip down to East Village with our friends at Verge Magazine to check out the Rock the Belles night. A well deserved night out for some of the team who have been slaving away preparing Raw Edge Boutique 's Spring 11 Collection ! Totally sold as soon as we were informed about the complimentary Wah Nails manicure on offer, we just had to indulge.

Great live performances, DJ battle & set from Little Boots & much more! Djs on the night including DJ Nikki Beatnik spun the best in dubstep, grime and even 90s!  The Raw Edge Team were blown away by the 90s hip hop nostalgia in particular, because we do love all things 90s, took us back to our second home across the pond! And to top it off we bumped into the gorgeous VV Brown! All in all a great night, looking forward to next month's Rock the Belles!!

The Raw Edge Team Loves (LFW Special) ... Mary Katrantzou AW 11 LFW

Mary Katrantzou a St Martins Graduate, & currently now showing on schedule for the second time under the NEWGEN, Topshop iniaitive at this seasons LFW left us speechless. After her impressive run at last seasons fashion week, here at REB we believe she has certainly taken it up a notch. Her show stopping pieces in the fewest words possible could be described as a visual banquet. Her landmark haute couture structured silhouette dresses and peplum lampshade shape skirts were adorned with her trademark digital prints, yet this season she went for exquisite scenic prints, with hints of baroque mismatched with floral prints, working together, exuding decadence. This ready to wear collection can certainly be
defined as wearable art.

Print overload for the faint hearted but here at REB  we love all prints, we secretly wish it was acceptable for us to mismatch and clash as much prints as was seen on the Katrantzou catwalk in our daily walk. Mary indeed fulfilled her self professed goal, "i want to push print to the limit"  with this collection, printing on everything from knitwear to silk chiffon. She has come very far from her days at St Martins; it seems Ms Katrantzou is going from Print to Print! We love it, cannot wait for next season...

The Raw Edge Team Loves (LFW Special) ... Burberry Prorsum AW 11 LFW

Burberry Prorsum...what can we even say about this show? It truly breathed a new lease of life into London Fashion Week. Hands down one of the REB teams absolute favourite showings of LFW this season. The folks at Burberry had the REB clan gabbing for days. The clothes, in particular the coats screamed "WEAR ME NOW", the models embodied the rhythm of the eclectic hybrid of seriously, good music down the runway ever so well and umm did we mention... the COATS?!! Every coat we've ever worn in ours lives somewhat seems unsatisfactory thanx to Burberry. So if thats what Christopher Bailey intended, well done, he most definitely succeeded. REB' s model fav, Jourdan Dunn opened and closed the show with her signature walk making it clear why she is the face of Burberry's latest campaign. Go girl!

If you didn't get a chance to watch the show, why not watch it here. If you did, then surely you must understand the excitement in this post! Long live Burberry, we say!

Top 5 LFW Beauty Trends

Ladies no fear if you missed out on the  capitals week of fashion. I’m always here to inspire your beauty world. There is so much we can take from the catwalk and make it daily friendly. So let’s discuss the top five beauty trends of this week;

LASHES
So I thought I was hot on eyelashes till I saw Paperself Lashes!!! They aren’t just your regular lash extensions they are inspired by the art of Chinese paper cutting and come in eleven styles! You can have eyelashes in the shape of horses or zebras it is beyond imagination. Paperelf were giving out free demos @ the Exhibition! Look out for them!!

HAIR
So I’ve come to a conclusion that there was not simply one ongoing hair trend throughout it looked as if there was a combination of headgear and hair styles.

Woven Plaits are here to stay, as seen at the Belle Sauvage show. I simply love woven plaits on a lazy day.  I still love Top knot either in a bun or a pony tail they are so neat and classic looks great with statement lips. I find that I love to define my eyebrows and lips more as well as contour my face when I’ve tied my hair up. I think it’s such great catwalk hair as it creates length for the models as well as not taking the emphasis off the clothes. Mid length hair has also been popular at LFW, suits all, easy fix!

We also spotted a few girls with bleached tips. This new craze is known as dip dye hair! BLEACH based in Dalston's popular WAH nails are credited with pioneering this movement. Celebs such as Nicki Minaj have embraced this new dip dye culture there’s no doubt we will see several more following this phenomenon. The new Topshop SS campaign for 2011 features a lot of dip dye too. Warning: For the Brave only!
(BLEACH are also currently based in Topshop, Oxford Street)

The biggest hair related trend I noticed at this seasons LFW is the headgear!! Today was totally full of the most fabulous head décor ranging from fur hats, floppy hats, silk scarves and turbans. I should have brought my trilby as the weather was not exactly on my side! I love the way that head gear can clash with your ensemble, perfect for a bad hair day. We even spotted Hilary Alexander around Somerset House wearing a fur hat looking sensational!

LIPS
I guess we are all in the nude with our lips!!!!I’m actually loving this trend… there are soooo many great nudey lip colours that I adore such as Crème d’nude and Buttercup from Mac Cosmetics but I find a mix of lipsticks does the trick depending on your skin tone. Mac cosmetics have this new superwoman range to POW your way into spring. This cartoon inspired collection suitable for spring is a great way to update your makeup bag. With the fresh faced daytime look and bold colours for the evenings it’s a great combination for this upcoming season. I will be testing this range out myself so I shall keep you updated on my faves!

We also love the bold but  since we are coming into spring why not try a bit of an orange tinge as a change to our reds and deep purple. Vegas Volt is a bit flash I feel totally fab wearing it! Very electric but can be worn during the day!

EYEBROWS
Whether heavily or softly defined, eyebrows have been essential and a trending fashion. Thin eyebrows are so out the window and it may be even acceptable to have a slight mono brow! We now live in a society where high definition eyebrows are a must in order to character your face with or without makeup. There are so many kits to aid with eyebrow definition there aren’t just eyebrow pencils. I still find myself defining daily even though I tint my brows like crazy…every little helps.

SHEER SKIN
With the above having so much prominence its all about having natural skin! Letting the eyebrows and lips talk for themselves. We are seeing a lot of this on the catwalk with less emphasis on blush and more on contouring/ a more pure look. A top secret tip to achieve great sheer skin,  just a bit extra to your two litres of water and five a day... Lush cosmetics' Mask of Magnamity face mask!
Lush cosmetics have always done the most fab face masks made from natural ingredients.  Mask of Magnamity is braced in honey leaving your skin feeling clear and smelling gorgeous. I love to use it before a night out , perfect for these early shows and late after parties  during fashion week!  (Lush have even tried to help us keep our beautiful skin regime by  giving away a fresh face mask when you collect five empty lush  cosmetics bottles!!)

So there you have it a few pointers to bring your daily beauty catwalk to life!

London Fashion Week Diary AW 11 so far... - Belle Sauvage AW11 LFW /Ajak Denj/ Street Style...

So as you know the Raw Edge Team have been preparing for our anticipated Spring 11 launch, but we just had to take time out of our busy schedules to attend THE most important event in our calender, LFW !! A time where the industry meticulously select their glad rags and stomp around the often cobbled streets & side roads of London, and so as usual the Raw Edge Press Team had to get involved with the action. You may have caught us hobbling around London visiting the exhibition, attending a few shows, snapping up insiders & mingling with who's who! Check out what we've been up to over the past few days below!

Elle Style Awards 2011 Style Icon winner: Emma Watson

"Who is Emma Watson ???" Vivienne Westwood

Elle Style Award, Style Icon winner. The young lady has come very far from her days as Hermione  Grange in the biggest blockbuster of our time, Harry Potter. Ditching that grizzly main and overnight with her signature pixie crop has become a fashion icon. The young lady has also modeled for Chanel & Burberry.. a fair contender?

With so many iconic celebs we honestly don't know how they chose! Congrats Emma!!

The Raw Edge Team Loves: NYFW Fall 11 so far...
