Now that New York Fashion Week has come to an end, and the festivities that the week brings are all but memories waiting to be relived again next season, our Media Correspondent, Ngozi Kemjika looks back at Raw Edge Boutique’s highlights from the week.
This season was quite possibly one of our favourite seasons to date, not only did we enjoy the shows, the designs and so on, we revelled in the fact that the city that never sleeps truly lived up to its name. With the shows came back to back after parties and with the after parties came a tremendous amount of fun. In between running to and from shows, meeting designers, changing our flats into our heels, and retouching our make-up, the Raw Edge Team got stuck right into the spirit of fashion week!
The city was jam packed with events and people alike on New York’s third annual ‘Fashion’s Night Out’ also. We found ourselves well and truly lost (in a good sense) in the mayhem on New York’s famous Fifth Avenue.
Once Fashion’s Night Out was over we could fully concentrate on the shows and boy oh boy were we blessed this season to actually make it to so many. A great yet tiring experience, we don’t know how those in charge do it!
A designer that particularly stood out to us was Jen Kao; her use of what she terms “happy disillusionment” gave her pieces a dramatic yet very wearable feel. Have a look for yourselves here:
Another one of our highlights was the Vera Wang show. A-lister’s such as Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Serena Williams came out in full force to see what the new collection had to offer and in true Raw Edge style, we met and spoke with a few of them about the show.
No, the fun didn’t stop there! We rushed back to the next show which was the phenomenal Herve Leger collection by the one and only Max Azria. Amazing! Great choice of girls to match up with his great designs, we were absolutely mesmerised. Check out myself and Max backstage below.
The show that the headquarters of REB were particularly excited to see all week was the Arise show. We had spoken so much about it before-hand that we had butterflies waiting to be seated. It is always a great pleasure for us to support African talent and it felt like going to the show to be spectators that we were doing just that. REB could clearly see the passion and hard work that had went into the show and it was a pleasure to receive an invite. Shout out to Leona Lewis for a great closing performance, she definitely gave us chills.
